Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Control Tower IT Issue
Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
Some passengers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, significant disruption are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
Officials had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Travelers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
