Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
