Heat & Portland Trail Blazers Secure Initial Victories After Recent Arrests
Miami recorded 86 first-half points against the Memphis Grizzlies
The Heat claimed a decisive 146 to 114 win against the Grizzlies in their initial NBA game since player Rozier was arrested for suspected unlawful gambling.
Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also detained as part of a extensive FBI investigation into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the allegations.
But, the Miami team were focused as they put up 86 first-half scores to lead Memphis by 39 at halftime, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year existence.
Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later said Terry had the team's full backing.
"We support him. Full support," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."
Heat coach Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is a person who is important to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our team.
"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he goes through the situation."
Portland additionally secured their initial match after the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and guiding the squad to a decisive 139 to 119 victory against the Warriors.
"We all had great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but our focus is on the game."
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests
Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the game," he informed Amazon Prime. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."
The commissioner also mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.
"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.
"We investigated the matter and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.
"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.
"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.
"And two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in fairness to Rozier.
"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."

Following racking up forty-three points in a first defeat to the Warriors, the European star achieved 49 scores - to go with 11 boards and eight passes - as the Los Angeles defeated the Timberwolves 128-110.
From Greece forward Giannis Antetokounmpo also had a big night with thirty-one scores, 20 rebounds and seven passes in the Bucks' 122 to 116 win at the Toronto Raptors.
Houston Rockets were defeated 115-111 by the Detroit Pistons despite 37 points from Kevin Durant, while Wembanyama had 29 points, 11 rebounds and nine rejections in the San Antonio Spurs' overtime win against the Pelicans.
