‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, remarking that he could not remember "any day without joy".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.

This week, a Los Angeles court official decided to prevent the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the local authorities.
A court order put a restriction on the investigation to limit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" connected to the probe.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of foul play, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
