An extensive manufacturing zone located in the suburbs of Jakarta is addressing nuclear pollution after a government taskforce found presence of the dangerous isotope Caesium-137 at twenty-two production plants inside the area, that encompasses businesses shipping chilled marine products.

Extensive Pollution and Medical Examinations

Radiation tests showed at least twenty-two plants in the manufacturing zone were contaminated. The official team did not identify the 21 other production sites, but confirmed they would promptly receive decontamination processes carried out by Indonesia's nuclear agency.

A senior official declared that residents residing in strongly contaminated zones would be relocated until the site was decontaminated, emphasizing that the safety of the residents was the “main concern”.

Medical authorities additionally conducted checks on local workers and people located close to the manufacturing zone, finding nine individuals who showed signs for contact to Caesium-137. They were referred to a hospital before being allowed to return home.
