The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
